Byway Travel has achieved B Corporation status in recognition of its standards of social and environmental performance, public transparency and legal accountability.
The sustainable travel company joins the likes of clothing brand Patagonia and food businesses Ben and Jerry’s and Danone, as well as 2,700 other firms worldwide.
Certified B Corps are said to "look after their staff, work toward a more inclusive supply chain, and use the power of business to solve social and environmental issues".
B Corp certification provides consumers with a means to ensure that they are supporting socially and environmentally responsible businesses.
Byway offers multi-stop journeys by train, bus and boat, and all trips are 100% flight free and accommodation is locally owned and operated.
Following the accreditation, Byway will now focus on its environmental and social objectives, as well as setting aims to continue measuring and setting targets for customer satisfaction, paying a Real Living Wage and investing in team diversity.
Cat Jones, founder and chief executive of Byway, said the firm was created to "balance people, planet and profit while bringing slow travel to the mainstream".
"As a B Corp, we are more accountable than ever for our social and environmental goals, which include reducing the climate impact of leisure travel through slower, flight-free journeys and prioritising delightful lesser-known locations in our holidays, away from tourist hotspots," she added.
