Cambodia will no longer require overseas arrivals to take a Covid-19 test to gain entry.
According to Reuters, the move comes as the country bids to spur on more investment and tourism. The new rules were implemented on Thursday (17 March)
Prime minister Hun Sen reportedly said: "Now it’s the stage to open the economy by learning how to live with Covid."
Overseas arrivals still need to be fully vaccinated and those unable to show proof of vaccination will need to quarantine for 14 days after arrival.
"The Ministry of Health would like to urge all travellers that they should do rapid tests," health minister Mam Bunheng reportedly said in a statement.
Following the announcement, InsideAsia said: "Huge news from Cambodia today. It has removed all Covid testing requirements pre-trip and post-arrival. It has also reinstated the Visa on arrival programme."
"This is an incredible move from Cambodia which has led the way in south-east Asia with regards to post-covid travel," added Inside Travel Group spokesperson, James Mundy. "Cambodia is hugely reliant on tourism and has suffered heavily over the pandemic. It is obviously very keen to do what it can to bring visitors back and we hope that other countries in the region will begin to follow suit”.
“We always encouraged travel beyond Siem Reap to discover the culture, ancient rural towns, wildlife, jungle and islands that make up this beautiful kingdom. There is so much to this country and this further easing of rules will allow us to help more people get beneath the surface of Cambodia."
