The Canary Islands have hopped above mainland Spain as the top Easter travel destination, according to new data by travel insurance provider Staysure.
It’s the first time mainland Spain has lost out on the top spot for three years, while Turkey drops out of the top 10 rankings for the first time in also three years.
In addition to the Canary Islands and Spanish mainland taking the top two places on the podium, the Balearic Islands have also made it into this year’s most popular destinations for the company. Nine out of the 10 of the most popular destinations are European countries.
But after slipping down to fifth place in 2022, the US has sprung into third position, suggesting customers are keen to travel further afield this Easter.
France came in at fourth and Italy fifth, while the Netherlands climbed back into the top 10 as the seventh most popular destination, after being knocked to 11th place in 2022.
Ryan Howsam, chief executive of Staysure, said: "It’s refreshing to see a long-haul destination such as the US high up on the destinations list this year for the Easter break."
