Carnival Cruise Line has resumed operations in Australia for the first time since the onset of the Covid-19 pandemic.
Carnival Splendor departed Sydney at the weekend on a four-day cruise taking in Moreton Island, the first Carnival sailing from the city for nearly three years.
Christine Duffy, Carnival Cruise Line president, welcomed guests onboard Splendor and led a ribbon-cutting ceremony to which two long-time Carnival guests were invited ahead of their 80th cruise with the line.
Duffy said the festivities were a "taste of what’s to come" for Australia. "We have been planning this return for some time," she said. "We are elated now to see guests back on board, ready to have fun and take in the beauty that Australia has to offer.
Carnival will debut its newest ship, Carnival Luminosa, in Brisbane next month. "We’re looking forward to even more fun in Australia," added Duffy.
Splendor will operate a variety of Australian sailings year-round.
