The crew onboard a passing Carnival Cruise Line ship successfully brought a group of people stranded at sea in the Caribbean to safety this week.
Some 24 people were stranded in the small boat when they were spotted by the ship’s officers near the Dominican Republic and Puerto Rico on Tuesday (11 April).
Carnival Spirit was sailing the Caribbean Sea en route to Aruba when the rescue took place, with all 24 people onboard the small boat surviving their ordeal.
The group were checked over by the ship’s medical personnel and were found to be in good condition, said Carnival.
The Spirit crew contacted Coast Guard officials to coordinate a transfer, which was completed at around 3pm near La Romana in the Dominican Republic.
Carnival Spirit had no scheduled stops on Tuesday and has resumed its week-long voyage from PortMiami, which is due to call in Aruba as scheduled on Wednesday.
The rescue came less than a month after another Carnival ship, Carnival Valor, came to the aid of three seafarers stranded in the Gulf of Mexico.
