Celebrity Cruises reveals Edge entertainment venues
Tom ParryCelebrity Cruises upcoming ship, Celebrity Edge, will feature more entertainment venues and production shows than any other vessel in the line’s fleet.
Lisa Lutoff-Perlo, president and chief executive, said the Celebrity had “truly taken entertainment to the edge” with its onboard offering. “We are changing the future of our entertainment,” she added.
The line had previously revealed Eden, its “fusion of culinary exploration, performance art and nightlife”, which will feature evolving entertainment as the space transforms from a “chillful” escape in the mornings to “playful” in the afternoons to “sinful” at night.
The Theatre
Edge’s main theatre – The Theatre - will feature four stage areas and three “gigantic”, moving projection screens.
The main stage extends into the audience creating a partial theatre-in-the-round, while a duo-directional platform raises almost seven feet above the stage to lift performers high above the audience.
Other aspects of the theatre include two rotating, spiral staircases; 10 synchronized panoramic projection screens, 16 state-of-the-art video mapping laser projectors, and aerial performance rigging.
In The Theatre, passengers will be able to enjoy five new full production shows, including: the Shakespeare-inspired "A Hot Summer Night’s Dream," which combines light-hearted theater and acrobatics; "The Jewelry Box," which relies heavily on The Theatre’s technology; "Kaleidoscope," a high-energy music and dance extravaganza; and two shows that are part of Celebrity’s new Headline Residency program -- "Get Up," a pop concert show and "The Purpose," a production designed to celebrate the inner self.
The Club
The ship’s nightclub, The Club, is open from the morning until the early hours with high-tech activities during the day and a contemporary speakeasy vibe at night.
During the day, The Club offers experiences such as the Funovation Laser Maze Challenge and the Drone Hunting laser obstacle course.
At night, Celebrity said the venue would undergo a transformation, putting a contemporary spin on the Prohibition era with 20’s-inspired craft cocktails and an aerial saxophonist.
A futuristic body scanner, named Andromeda, “allows guests to become someone else for the evening”, Celebrity described, and its Hypno Cam Experience is a first-at-sea dance party featuring a high-tech camera that’s passed around to capture photos, which are instantly displayed on a giant Led screen.
Camp at Sea
For children, Celebrity said Edge would take its Camp at Sea programme “to the next level” with more than 500 activities, including its first youth coding experience at sea, and two separate contemporary spaces, one for the kids and one for teens.
Elsewhere, guests can enjoy concerts and movies at the ship’s Rooftop Garden, the next evolution of the brand’s Taste of Film experience that’s an under-the-stars movie going experience with live musical performances.
