Chile is to relax entry rules for international visitors from 1 November in a major boost to Latin American tourism.
Visitors will need to show proof of vaccination, take a PCR test before departure and a Covid test upon arrival that proves negative.
The country’s tourist board said in a statement: “Starting 1 November, non-resident foreigners can travel freely throughout the country if proof of full vaccination is provided and a Covid-19 test completed upon arrival yields a negative result.”
Danny Callaghan, Latin American Travel Association chief executive, said: "After a slow 18 months, I am thrilled to see UK travellers are once again able to visit Chile.
"This iconic destination has one of the best Covid programmes in the world, and I’m pleased that they are now seeing the benefits of tourism returning.
"This also bodes well for the Antarctic cruise season, with many vessels set to depart from Chile. I see this as the beginning of a long-awaited recovery for the wider region."
Until 31 October, visitors must take a PCR test 72 hours before departure and isolate for five days upon arrival. They must also respond to a daily email for 14 days after entering the country.
Latest figures show nearly 89% of Chile’s population has had both vaccine doses, a figure similar to the UK.
