Clia will run a new webinar for agent members on the EU’s Entry-Exit System (EES) and the European Travel Information and Authorisation System (ETIAS) next month.
Officials from the European Commission will join the UK trade body on 16 September for an update as well as a Q&A session.
The systems – which applies to all EU member states – will introduce update procedures for customs declarations, enhanced security measures and streamlined processes for both commercial and personal travel.
It is hoped the changes will improve border efficiency and facilitate smoother cross-border movements.
The EES is an automated system that will record information on non-EU nationals entering and exiting the Schengen Area. This includes short-stay visa holders and visa-exempt travellers.
ETIAS will require travellers from visa-exempt non-EU countries, including the UK, to obtain travel authorisation before entering the Schengen Area.
Confirming the EES would come into force on 10 November, EU home affairs commissioner Ylva Johansson said: “At every single airport, every single harbour, every single road into Europe, we will have digital border controls.
“All switched on at the every same time. When that happens, it will be goodbye to passport stamping [and] hello to digital checks.”
Clia agent members can join the seminar at 3pm on 16 September by registering on cruising.org
