Colombia’s Avianca has restarted its daily London-Bogota link for the first time since the onset of Covid-19.
London flights to the Colombian capital resumed at the weekend (27 March) after the best part of two years.
Services will depart Heathrow at 10.40pm, with Avianca offering around 7,000 monthly seats to the Colombian capital.
Flights will be operated new generation B787 Dreamliner aircraft. The route is the longest the carrier will operate using a Dreamliner.
Suspended in 2020, the route – pre-Covid – had one of the airline’s highest rates of occupation, with a load factor in excess of 85%.
From Avianca’s Bogota hub, passengers will be able to connect with tourist destinations such as Cartagena, Cali and Medellin.
Onward connections further afield include Peru, Ecuador, Brazil, Costa Rica and Mexico.
“With this reactivation, we are putting into the market around 7,000 new monthly seats that will boost connectivity, not just between the United Kingdom and Colombia, but also with the rest of Latin America," said Avianca vice-president sales and distribution Caralina Nannig. "This will translate in more tourism, business exchange and economic opportunities for both regions."
Jose Puyana, ProColombia regional director for Europe, added: "The relaunch of the Bogota-London flight route is fantastic news for Colombia. Thanks to the team effort between ourselves, Avianca and the UK’s aviation sector, we are pleased to more easily share the famous warmth of our country with our important markets in the UK and Europe.
"This direct flight will successfully boost tourism to Colombia and its six cultural, musical and biodiverse regions, both now and in the future."
