The king’s coronation has prompted a spike in inbound flights, according to aviation analytics firm Cirium.
Cirium estimated 11% more flights are due to arrive at UK airports this week (May 1-7) compared to the same week last year. It said almost 19,000 flights were scheduled to touch down, equating to more than 3.3 million seats.
London airports will account for more than two million of these seats, but Manchester and Edinburgh are set to receive more than 1,000 arriving flights each.
Friday 5 May, the day before the ceremony, will see 2,877 arrivals. In terms of outbound travel, flights are set to peak this weekend, with UK departures reaching 86% of 2019 levels, Cirium estimated.
The coming weekend will also 10,807 arrivals, equal to more than 1.9 million seats, up 10% on the same period in 2022. London airports will account for 1.1 million of these.
