The cost of living crisis has bred a new form of environmentally-friendly traveller as Brits look to alter their holiday plans to save money, a new study has highlighted.
The findings come from a poll of 2,089 British adults by InsureandGo, revealing almost nine in 10 respondents (89%) have been making changes to their holidays which not only save money, but also spell good news for the planet.
Fast fashion was first in line for a rethink, with 48% of people shunning a new holiday wardrobe, instead saying they would be happy to wear last year’s summer clothes on holiday in order to save cash and help the planet.
Many people are also re-considering how far they need to travel – with 45% considering a UK break to save money and reduce their carbon footprint and 28% travelling to a country closer to home (28%).
Meanwhile, for those set on a holiday abroad, many will do their bit at the destination to make their money stretch further whilst being mindful about the climate crisis, such as eating local produce (40%) or opting for self-catering (36%).
Chris Rolland, chief executive of InsureandGo, said: "At a time when Brits face the double-burden of soaring prices and a climate crisis, many are adapting with a two-in-one approach that tackles both simultaneously, while allowing them to still enjoy a holiday.
"This research shows there are manageable steps we can all take to reduce our impact on the planet and save money at the same time. In some ways the double-crisis people face could prove to be the mother of innovation."
