Utah’s Salt Lake City is to get its first direct flight from the UK next summer when Delta begins a daily service from London.
Salt Lake City is the final of Delta’s seven US hubs to be linked to Heathrow and is within a few hours’ drive of more than 20 national parks.
The mountains that surround the city are a popular destination for biking, hiking and rafting.
The flight will operate daily and permit one-stop connections to cities such as Reno, Boise, Albuquerque and Idaho Falls among 50 destinations. The airline has scheduled a 210-seat, Boeing 767-300ER aircraft for the summer-only service, which will operate from May 2.
Delta has also announced a summer-only Edinburgh-New York JFK flight, competing with American Airlines’ Edinburgh-JFK service and United’s flight to Newark. The daily flight will commence on May 27, offering up to 60 onward connections.
The service will be Delta’s only one from Scotland, although partner airline Virgin Atlantic flies Glasgow-Orlando. The airline says the new flight will offer easy transfers to destinations including Miami, Orlando, Las Vegas, Los Angeles and San Francisco via the newly extended Terminal 4 at JFK.
Delta will operate a 163-seat Boeing 757-200 aircraft on the route including a business cabin.
“For the second summer in a row, Delta will be launching new routes that give customers more options when flying between the UK and the United States,” said Nat Pieper, Delta’s senior vice president, Europe, Middle East and Africa.
“Delta and Virgin Atlantic are committed to offering an extensive network on the trans-Atlantic and our new flights from London and Edinburgh will offer more connections to destinations throughout the U.S. and beyond.”
