Delta Air Lines will return to Ireland’s Shannon next year as part of its "largest-ever" transatlantic schedule.
Last operated in 2019, the US carrier will resume non-stop daily flights to the town serving Ireland’s western Atlantic coast. Delta will operate the route from New York JFK starting 23 May 2024.
It will also go up against Aer Lingus on its new service between Minneapolis-Saint Paul and Dublin.
Aer Lingus last month confirmed it would restart its Dublin-MSP route on a four-times-weekly basis, starting 29 April 2024, rising to daily from October.
Delta will launch a five-times-weekly service just a few days later on 9 May 2024.
Delta said the additions would complement its year-round services to Ireland from JFK, as well as seasonal flights from two of its other hubs – Atlanta and Boston.
Other new additions to Delta’s transatlantic network out of JFK include new non-stop flights to Naples and Munich.
From Atlanta, Delta will add Zurich and increase frequencies to Paris and Venice, while from Los Angeles, Delta will fly to Auckland year-round and increase frequency to Sydney.
Joe Esposito, Delta senior vice-president of network planning, said there had "never been a better time to explore Europe on Delta".
