Discover Egypt to make Sharm return

The Aito member said it will “shortly” begin advertising holidays to the Red Sea resort as an add-on to its classic Nile cruises which sail year-round.

Boss Philip Breckner said despite Discover Egypt not being a “mainstream Red Sea tour operator” the FCO’s decision to end its flight ban to Sharm “does have a major positive influence on all travel to Egypt”.

“Over the last 15 years, travel to Sharm has become synonymous with travel to Egypt, and the public has been wary of travel to all of Egypt because of the FCO advice,” Breckner said.

Tui and Red Sea Holidays both confirmed returns to Sharm after the UK government’s advice against all but essential travel by air to and from the destination was lifted on 22 October.

Red Sea placed Sharm back on sale just hours after the advice was changed.

Agents are now able to book the operator’s weekly charter flights from Gatwick, using Enter Air, with the first service departing on 22 December.

A Tui spokesperson said: “We will reintroduce Sharm el Sheikh, taking into account customer demand, and will now work closely with our hotel and airport partners, so we can confirm more details in due course.

“Sharm el Sheikh was always a popular holiday destination with our customers, and we welcome the change in travel advice by the UK government.”
