Disney Cruise Line has confirmed plans to homeport a ship in Asia for the first time.
The line on Wednesday (29 March) confirmed a new, yet-unnamed Disney ship would homeport in Singapore for five years. Sailings will get under way in 2025, as per an agreement with the Singapore Tourism Board (SBT).
“We are incredibly excited to make Singapore the homeport to our seventh ship, which will sail from here year-round starting in 2025,” said Josh d’Amaro, chair of Disney Parks, Experiences and Products.
The line said it had chosen Singapore as its first Asian homeport due to the city’s “strategic location" and "world-class connectivity,” as it hopes to attract millions of local and foreign tourists onboard its cruises.
“This is an important milestone for STB and reflects Disney Cruise Line’s strong confidence in Singapore and south-east Asia,” said STB chief executive Keith Tan. “The new Disney cruise ship will be an attraction itself, and is expected to boost the tourism sector in Singapore for many years to come.”
Capable of hosting up to a maximum of 6,000 passengers and 2,300 crew members, the ship will feature new and returning signature Disney experiences, catering for guests of all ages.
The vessel, construction of which will take place at Disney’s shipyard in Germany, will be the first to be fuelled by green methanol, which Disney claims to be one of the lowest-emission fuels on the market.
Details of the ship’s maiden voyage and future itineraries will be announced at a later date.
