The first of Disney Cruise Line’s three new ships, Disney Wish, has taken to the water for the first time, offering a first glimpse of the vessel which is due to sail its maiden voyage in July.
Wish was floated out at the Meyer Werft shipyard in Germany on Friday (11 February), with the occasion marked by fireworks, a musical fanfare and a special appearance by captain Minnie Mouse.
The ship features a range of new experiences exploring the Disney universe, including the first-ever Disney attraction at sea, Frozen, a Marvel-themed immersive dining experiences and a high-end lounge based on the Star Wars galaxy.
One of the ship’s two red funnels, meanwhile, will feature a first-of-its-kind two-storey near-2,000sqft suite, while Minnie will be depicted on the ship’s bow, the first time the character has featured on the bow of a Disney ship.
Wish will sail its maiden voyage from Port Canaveral in Florida on 14 July, and will proceed to sail a range of three- and four-night itineraries to Nassau and Disney’s private Castaway Cay island.
The ship is the first of three Disney has on order, with two sister ships due for delivery by 2025. All three will be powered by liquefied natural gas.
