EasyJet has claimed to have filled “a plane-a-minute worth” of customers booking 2023 holidays during the first days of its Big Orange Sale.
May 2023 proved to be the most popular summer month for bookings in the first hours of the sale, which launched on 22 December, with booking data carried out by the airline in November claiming 64% of Brits are planning to prioritise an overseas trip in the new year.
In the days following the start of the sale, package bookings grew by more than 230%, with all-inclusive breaks in highest demand and Tenerife proving the most popular overall destination and Amsterdam the top-performing city break choice.
EasyJet reported flights to North African destinations had experienced the greatest rise in popularity compared to 2019 – with Tunisia enjoying the largest boost since the sale began, and Egypt and Morocco also seeing demand increase compared to pre-pandemic levels.
Trips to Greek islands had also proved popular for 2023, as had Tirana in Albania and Tivat in Montenegro, which easyJet said offered alternatives to travellers seeking Italy and Croatia and wanting to explore the Adriatic coast.
EasyJet also claimed “strong demand” from skiers heading to the slopes in January, with France and Italy among the top-performing destinations, while bookings to Innsbruck and Salzburg also saw a jump in demand compared to 2019.
Ali Gayward, easyJet’s UK country manager, said it was “great to see a return to this traditionally busy booking period”, adding “the popularity of package holidays with easyJet holidays also shows no sign of slowing down”.
