Emirates plans to expand its route network out of Dubai after inking a $52 billion order for new aircraft, which will grow its fleet to "around 350" over the next decade.
The Gulf carrier has placed an order for an additional 55 Boeing 777-9 aircraft and a further 35 Boeing 777-8s, extending its total orders for 777X family aircraft to 205.
In addition, Emirates has upped its order for Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft to 35 in total – 15 Boeing 787-10s and 20 Boeing 787-8s.
It brings Emirates’ total Boeing order book to 295 aircraft, with deliveries due over a 10-year period from 2025 through to 2035. The order was placed on the first day of the 2023 Dubai Airshow.
HH Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, Emirates chair and chief executive, said the order would help Emirates fulfil its goal of adding 400 cities to Dubai’s foreign trade map over the next decade.
"By the early 2030s, we expect the Emirates fleet to be around 350-strong, connecting Dubai to even more cities around the world," added HH Sheikh Ahmed.
