The European Union has again postponed its European Travel Information and Authorisation System (Etias) until 2024.
The Directorate-General for Migration and Home Affairs at the EU in Brussels altered the target date in its online advice about the scheme to next year – meaning Brits won’t have to pay a £6 fee for a three year permit until 2024 at the earliest.
The scheme was due to come into service later this year, after it was first delayed in August 2022. It was initially due to launch in 2021.
Once Etias is operational, holidaymakers from so-called third countries will have to apply in advance to travel to the bloc and pay the fee, similar to the US Esta.
