The number of cancelled flights within Europe rose by more than a third in June compared to the previous month.
According to data analytics firm Cirium, 10,402 flights were cancelled within Europe last month, up from 7,600 in May 2023. In North America, cancellations rose 188% in June compared to the previous month.
LOT Polish Airlines was named Europe’s most punctual carrier, with 82.72% of flights arriving on-time, with Norwegian Air Shuttle landing second position with 82%.
Iberia, Finnair and Austrian also made the top five, but no UK airline featured in the top 10 of most punctual European carriers.
It comes ahead of potential summer strike action across the country’s major airports, with 1,000 workers at Gatwick set participate in eight days of walkouts later this month in a dispute over pay.
A strike by more than 150 security officers and terminal technicians at Birmingham airport, which had been due to get under way on Tuesday (18 July), was suspended on Monday (17 July).
