A private jet, which brought operations at Tenerife South airport to a standstill after it encountered technical difficulties, has been removed allowing authorities to reopen the main runway.
More than 20 inbound flights were diverted to Tenerife North, Gran Canaria and Lanzarote airports, causing delays for passengers travelling to the island on Thursday (2 January).
According to the Canarian Weekly, the private jet was stuck on the runway and could not be immediately removed after it suffered technical issues.
The publication said: “Efforts to tow the plane away were complicated by its position on the runway and the need for specialised equipment.”
Aer Lingus, Ryanair, easyJet and Tui all had flights that had be to diverted because of the blocked runway.
