The Foreign Office has warned travellers against visiting protest areas in Zimbabwe today (25 October), which could “turn violent”.
According to Zimbabwean local newspaper The Herald, thousands of demonstrators have already gathered around Harare for a day of anti-sanction protests.
The government has created a public holiday today in light of the marches.
The FCO has warned visitors to avoid the protests, adding they may “turn violent without notice”, are “unpredictable”, and could provoke a “disproportionate” response from security forces.
It also advised that taking pictures of police, armed forces, or of the protests is not allowed.
“You should exercise a high degree of caution and monitor local media and this travel advice for updates,” the FCO added.
