British football fans heading to Euro 2024 this summer have been warned by the Foreign Office that "beer can be stronger" in host nation Germany.
In a wide-ranging update following Tuesday’s final qualifying games, which saw Wales narrowly miss out on a place, the FCDO has added a full tournament guide to its travel advice for Germany.
Euro 2024 will kick off on Friday 14 June and wrap up with the final in Berlin on Sunday 14 July. England and Scotland are among the 32 participants.
Besides the basics like personal safety, entry requirements, passport validity and insurance, the guide touches on the situation with match tickets, stadium entry rules and restrictions, local transport, travelling in Germany, tournament fan villages – and alcohol.
"Beer can be stronger than in the UK, so drink responsibly, know your limits and respect local laws," reads the updated advice. "You may not be let into the stadium if you drink too much."
Ten grounds across Germany will share hosting duties, with fans strongly advised only to buy match tickets from official providers. In addition, with all tickets being digital, the FCDO is advising fans to ensure their phones are charged and to account for any necessary roaming charges to access their tickets.
On travel and transport, the FCDO flags: "Ticket holders will have access to discounted national and international train tickets, as well as a 36-hour travel pass for public transport.
"Transport routes around the stadiums will be very busy during the tournament. Local authorities may ask you to enter or leave the stadium by specific routes. Make sure you plan your journey [and] leave plenty of time, particularly on match days."
