Fort Myers Beach has unveiled phased reopening plans following the impacts of Hurricane Ian in 2022.
Last September, the hurricane ripped through southwest Florida, devastating Fort Myers and the surrounding area.
But nearly five months on, Lee County has announced a phased reopening of the city’s beach parks.
Since the storm, the area has been in recovery mode, with many hotels, restaurants and transport connections, such as Sanibel Causeway, already reopened.
In early March, the local authority hopes to reopen Dog Beach and Boca Grande beach accesses, followed by Alison Hagerup Beach Park, San Carlos Bay and Bonita Beach accesses one, four, five six and nine in mid-March.
The following month will see Lynne Hall Memorial Park and Bonita Beach Park reopen, and in May, Bowditch Point Park, Little Hickory Island Park and Crescent Beach Family Park will follow suit.
