Lufthansa is predicting around 100,000 passengers will likely be affected by a two-day cabin crew strike this week, which started on Tuesday (12 March).
Members of Germany’s UFO union are staging strike action at Frankfurt airport on Tuesday (12 March) and Munich airport (13 March).
The action will impact Lufthansa’s core airline services, as well as operations at short-haul subsidiary CityLine. Lufthansa said it would have to adjust its flight programme on both strike days.
The situation is being compounded by a nationwide rail strike by Germany’s train drivers’ union GDL on Tuesday, which has forced the cancellation of all trains.
"Guests whose flights are affected by the UFO strike are currently being rebooked," said Lufthansa. "This process has the highest priority for us and is still ongoing. We therefore ask for your patience.
"Guests whose booking has already been processed will receive information about the cancellation of their flight and, of course, rebooking options individually by email or in the Lufthansa app."
On the rail strike, Lufthansa added: "Due to an additional nationwide strike by the train drivers’ union GDL, train services will be completely cancelled throughout Germany on this day (Tuesday 12 March). Guests are therefore advised to use their rail voucher on Wednesday 13 March.
"We regret the inconvenience that the UFO strike call and the rail strike may cause for your travel planning and thank you for your understanding in view of the current exceptional situation."
