Following applications from across the industry, the winners of the second set of TTG Scholarships to the tourism courses at Leeds Beckett University are announced today.
The winners of the second TTG Scholarships to Leeds Beckett University have been named following an exhaustive judging process.
Kallie Phillips, currently hotel content executive at On the Beach, will study for the MSc in Travel Business Leadership, while Rebecca Tuck, assistant manager at Newell’s Travel, Kingsbridge in Devon, will study for the BSc (Hons) Travel Business Management.
Both will have their tuition fees for the tourism courses paid under the scholarship, set up as part of TTG Media’s commitment to developing the best young people in the travel industry.
The scholarships were announced at the TTG Tomorrow’s Travel Leaders Conference in London last November, and followed the launch of a similar scheme in 2013 marking the 60th birthday of the Travel Trade Gazette.
Phillips said she was “honoured” to have been awarded the scholarship.
“It’s such a great chance to study the theoretical framework and practical application of systems and processes, building knowledge and developing leadership skills in an industry about which I am passionate,” she added. “I look forward to seeing what challenges and opportunities the future holds.”
Tuck said: “When I received the call, I couldn’t believe what I was hearing. Words cannot explain how excited I am for this opportunity! If it wasn’t for this scholarship I would never have been able to afford to study due to money nor time. It is great that this is now possible thanks to TTG and Leeds Beckett.”
Trish Coll, tourism courses leader at Leeds Beckett University, said the range of interests shown in the TTG Scholarships had been truly exciting.
“The high calibre of applications we received spanned the full range of the travel sector, from people working in different roles at different levels. I found it fascinating to read the unique personal stories and motivations for distance learning study, which is why it actually proved so very difficult to select the finalists,” she declared.
“We are delighted to offer Kallie and Rebecca a warm Yorkshire welcome to Leeds Beckett University as distance learning students. The course teams and I are looking forward to supporting them through their learning journey, which starts next week when the courses are launched.
“Both of our bespoke travel courses, which have been written by travel industry experts for travel industry professionals, are attracting travel managers from around the world.
“We are growing our community of online travel students and learners and I am delighted to report the courses are going from strength to strength, and are being recognised within the travel industry as the qualification to aim for.”
Leeds Beckett University has teamed up again with TTG Media to offer an exclusive 20% discount in course fees to readers looking to do their tourism courses.
