New cruise line Havila Voyages has debuted in Norway with Havilla Capella sailing along the coast from Bergen to Kirkenes.
The 640-passenger ship started its voyage on Sunday (12 December).
Bent Martini, chief executive of the Norwegian line, said the debut sailing was a "historic day" for both Havila and the coastal route.
Havila’s remaining three vessels – Havila Castor, Havila Polaris and Havila Pollux – are due to come into service in 2022.
The company says it will operate the Norwegian coast’s "most environmentally friendly" ships.
Havila Voyages has reportedly spent around 500 million Norwegian Krone to achieve this goal.
According to the line, the plug-in hybrid ships have the world’s largest battery packs designed for passenger ships. They weigh 86 tons and have a capacity of 6.1 megawatt hours, which is equivalent to 600 Teslas.
"The batteries allow us to sail for four hours without noise and emissions, and we can sail quietly and sustainably through world heritage fjords and pristine nature," Martini added.
