Consumer demand for overseas holidays has exceeded pre-pandemic levels for the first time in two years, according to travel insurance company Staysure.
The company reported on Thursday (24 February) it had seen a "staggering" rise in bookings taken in February 2022 compared to the same time in 2020, before the onset of the pandemic.
The firm’s contact centre also saw an "overwhelming" increase in calls received during the same time, which Staysure claimed showed the impact of the Omicron variant on consumer confidence was "drifting".
To meet the increase in demand, the business announced further plans to create 200 new positions in its operations team with an additional 100 staff members by the end of March.
Ryan Howsam, chief executive of Staysure Group, said the uptick in bookings and enquiries showed consumers "really are keen" to go on holiday.
"We are delighted to see these levels of traffic to both our website and call centre, and them converting into bookings," he added.
"The fact that in the process we can give something back to the community by creating jobs to meet demand is good news all round. May long it continue."
According to the firm, bookings for the UAE are up by 346% so far this year and Barbados, Egypt, Mexico, and Switzerland have also seen an uptick in demand.
