InteleTravel has been granted an Atol covering the US homeworking firm, which has 10,500 UK agents on its books, for £4 million annual package revenues.
The company, which gained Abta membership in March 2019, is licensed to sell 5,310 Atol-protected seats in the year to 30 September 2022, a filing with the CAA shows.
"Gaining an Atol is another major step forward for InteleTravel," said the firm on Tuesday (30 November).
Its Atol will allow its UK agents to package their own holidays, leveraging "a significant inventory" of hotels.
"InteleTravel... expects agents to use this resource to create packages with flights for their clients," it said.
However, reflecting on the relatively low Atol authorisation, the company said it would take a "gradual approach" to this area of its business with an initial licence to sell £4 million worth of its own packages, and the remainder "through its existing Atol-protected preferred partners".
It added: "InteleTravel will monitor the sales of packaged holidays over the coming months before considering launching its own tour operation."
UK director Tricia Handley-Hughes said: "The granting of an Atol is a major milestone for us and something that we have been working towards and preparing for since before the pandemic.
"We have demonstrated our robustness as a business and even through the pandemic, our revenues have risen 70% compared with the same period in 2019. During the pandemic, we’ve grown rapidly and focused on training and education for our agents, and now have some of the most comprehensive training in the industry.
"We expect the granting of an Atol will make InteleTravel even more appealing to those considering a career in the travel industry through the homeworking business model, creating a pipeline of new talent.”
InteleTravel said its agents would need to pass a test and receive certification to prove they have "an in-depth understanding of their obligations", including the Atol requirements on social media, advertising and promotion, before offering packages. New recruits will receive Atol training as part of their induction.
It said its "intense" mandatory training programme was both tracked and monitored, and would be supplemented by twice-weekly webinars, a full-day training session every two months, mentoring sessions for newcomers to the industry, live events, partner networking and an annual conference.
