Intrepid Travel’s not-for-profit arm, The Intrepid Foundation, has been chosen by the TTG Media team as the charity partner for The Travel Industry Awards by TTG 2024.
Donations for the foundation, launched in 2002 with the mission to make a positive impact in the destinations in which the Intrepid operates, will be raised during the awards ceremony on Magazine London on 26 September.
Finalists for the Travel Industry Awards were revealed last week, and guests purchasing tickets can also choose to make donations of £5, £10 or £20 to support the Intrepid Foundation.
The foundation enables customers to support local causes visited as part of their travels with Intrepid, with funds put to “effective, practical use” with each initiative supporting one or more of the 17 United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.
Its most recent campaign raised nearly £300,000 to support the rescue and recovery efforts following last August’s earthquake in Morocco
Intrepid matches donations and absorbs all administration costs, allowing 100% of donations to go directly to partners on the ground.
Since 2002, The Intrepid Foundation has raised more than £8 million for more than 160 partners around the world – with the organising seeing a record year in 2023, achieving £1.5 million to support a greater number of social and environmental issues than ever before.
Joanna Reeve, head of partnerships at Intrepid, said: “We’re incredibly excited that the Intrepid Foundation will be the official charity partner for the Travel Industry Awards this year.
“Our foundation now supports 50 partners across the globe, supporting causes dedicated to protecting the environment, addressing inequality and empowering communities. Each partner is selected by our local teams and is truly driving change on the ground, whether it’s supporting girls’ education in Morocco or wildlife conservation efforts in Kenya.
“Not one of us can solve the biggest challenges of our times alone. With the growing impact of climate change and global conflict, it’s more important than ever that we join forces to give back to the people and places that have been welcoming our travellers for decades. 2023 was a record-breaking year and with the support of the TTG community, we’re hopeful we can raise even more money for good causes around the world this year.”
