Iran to buy 114 Airbus aircraft

Iran has been welcomed back into the global economy following the agreement and has led to this week’s visit by President Hassan Rouhani to Rome and Paris.

The Airbus deal is just one of many expected to be signed during the tour – an Italian official predicted up to €17 billion worth of business could be agreed with his country’s companies alone.

If the deal is given the go ahead, Iran could take delivery of some of the aircraft as early as March where it is believed they would join the national carrier Iran Air.

While negotiators on both sides are remaining quiet about the age and value of the aircraft, they could still represent a significant improvement on the carrier’s fleet, which has aircraft averaging about 25 years in age.

The country is also interested in buying aircraft from Boeing.
