Italian airport workers to strike later this week

Workers at Bologna, Venice, Milan Linate, Milan Malpensa and Rome Fiumicino airports will walk out from 1pm to 5pm on Friday (5 July), while staff at the Calabrian airports of Reggio Calabria, Lamezia Terme and Crotone will strike for a full 24 hours.

Airport authorities have warned passengers to expect delays and cancellations, and urged them to check the status of their flights with their airlines before heading to their departure airport. 

“We inform our passengers that on Friday 5 July, due to a national air transport strike scheduled from 1pm to 5pm, scheduled flights may be delayed or cancelled and security procedures and normal passenger and aircraft handling procedures may be delayed,” said Venice airport.

“For information about your flight, please contact your airline, tour operator or travel agent.”

Italian flag carrier Ita Airways has cancelled 24 internal flights scheduled for Friday, including services between Bologna and Rome, as well as Milan and Reggio Calabria.
