ITT will host a webinar this week tackling the role data and artificial intelligence have inadvertently played in exacerbating bias.
The webinar, billed as “Uncovering accidental bias to find hidden customer opportunities – how AI is both perpetrator and champion for diversity and inclusion”, will take place from 11.30am-12.10pm on Wednesday (1 July) and will be followed immediately by a networking session until 1pm.
TTG Media group editor Pippa Jacks will chair the session, with panellists from Beyond Analysis – a data science, analytics and strategic data solutions and consulting business. Paul Alexander is chief excutive, and Jordan Browne-Moore is data solutions and bias expert.
The meteoric growth in the availability and use of data over the past 20 years has led to the pervasive use of technology and AI models in every aspect of our lives.
It has, however, also unwittingly exacerbated the problem, with bias effectively becoming hard-coded into our systems. “It can be easy to recognise in many cases, as we have seen recently, but what do you do about it when it is invisible, systemic and no one knows or realises it is there?”
The webinar will introduce attendees to the topic of bias, explain how it can permeate our everyday lives and decision-making and how to identify and fix it.
The session will cover the following:
• What is bias?
• Real life examples of how it is creeping into our lives through AI
• Where to look for bias in your travel business
• How does bias creep into your business and the choices it makes?
• What can you do to fix it?
After the webinar, the first virtual Network ITT will take place.
ITT members will be randomly placed in groups of up to four attendees. Each group will change every four minutes so you’ll get the chance to catch up with different people, many of whom you may not have seen for a while or perhaps never had the opportunity to meet.
If this taster event is popular, ITT will introduce regular virtual Network ITT sessions to keep members connected.
