Japan and Taiwan are preparing to lift all remaining Covid restriction to travellers in the next few weeks.
Japan’s prime minister Fumio Kishida said he will begin relaxing border controls from next month, including visa-free travel for tourists and the lifting of the requirement to travel in groups.
Bloomberg quoted Kishida speaking in New York as saying rules would be relaxed from 11 October, with the cap on daily arrivals scrapped.
Japan is keen to restart tourism while the yen has slumped against the world’s currencies, making it a more attractive destination.
Meanwhile Taiwan has given an initial commitment to end quarantine for arrivals from mid-October.
The Financial Review said quarantine would end from around 13 October, with visa-free entry for all countries from next week.
