Jet2.com and Jet2holidays has brought forward the launch of its new Bournemouth base, its 12th, by two months, citing strong demand for its services from agents and consumers on the south coast.
The airline and operator’s first Bournemouth flights will now get under way on 4 February rather than 1 April, giving agents the opportunity to book their clients on late-season winter sun getaways to the likes of Tenerife, Lanzarote and Gran Canaria.
Running year-round, Jet2’s three-times-weekly Bournemouth-Tenerife route will take off on 4 February operating on Tuesdays, Fridays and Saturdays. Flights to Lanzarote will operate on Mondays and Thursdays from 6 February, while weekly Gran Canaria services will get under way on 9 February operating on Sundays.
Jet2.com and Jet2holidays chief executive Steve Heapy said the decision to choose Bournemouth for its 12th base – its third in the south along with Stansted and Bristol – rather than other southern airports like Gatwick followed "years of demand" from agents and customers in Bournemouth airport’s catchment area.
“It is very clear just how much customers and independent travel agents are looking forward to enjoying our flights and holidays from Bournemouth airport, with the response exceeding all expectations,” said Heapy.
“We know local holidaymakers cannot wait for Jet2.com and Jet2holidays to launch from Bournemouth airport, so we have shortened how long they have to wait by bringing forward our launch to February 2025.”
During its first summer of operations at Bournemouth, Jet2.com will operate up to 27 weekly flights to popular destinations such as the Canary and Balearic islands, as well as mainland Spain and Portugal.
Flights to Fuerteventura and Madeira from Bournemouth with be Jet2 route exclusives, strengthening its challenge to rivals already operating from the south coast airport such as Ryanair, which offers 20 destinations, and Tui, which recently introduced a second aircraft based at Bournemouth to double its summer programme.
