US city keeps focus on sports and entertainment as development along the Strip continues at pace
Two days ago, news outlets carried images of the demolition of storied Las Vegas hotel, Tropicana, once a symbol of vintage Vegas glamour and a legendary hang-out for Rat Pack stars Frank Sinatra and Dean Martin.
At this year’s WTM London (3-5 November), Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority will be updating on development plans in the newly created space. Tropicana’s footprint will be filled by a new 28,000-seat stadium that will host Major League Baseball Oakland A’s, with an expected completion date of 2028. Joining the ranks of the Allegiant Stadium and T-Mobile Arena, the state-of-the-art stadium will further enhance Las Vegas’ stature as a premier destination for global sports.
Another sporting highlight is the Las Vegas Grand Prix, which returns on 22-24 November. The spectacular race debuted in 2023, with drivers navigating a 17-turn circuit encompassing some of the city’s most recognisable landmarks, hotels and casinos. A free fan zone will offer live team appearances, interactive F1 activities and exclusive insights into the world of motorsport.
Adding to the electric atmosphere, the Heineken Silver Stage will feature headline performances from Snakehips, Big boi and Vandelux. With Formula 1 committed to a 10-year partnership with Vegas, the LVCVA hopes the global Grand Prix platform will cement Las Vegas’ reputation as a go-to destination for world-class sport fused with star-studded entertainment.
Another key entertainment venue, the LED-wrapped Sphere, has just celebrated its first anniversary. U2 were the first act to stage a 40-show residency in the 580,000 square foot venue, followed by a series of events from the Ultimate Fighting Championship to groundbreaking in-house show, Postcard from Earth.
As The Eagles kick off their residency, WTM visitors can find out more about this immersive new arena and other venues, which are redefining entertainment in the entertainment capital of the world.
