A direct link between the UK and Peru will be re-established in December when Latam is due to launch services.
Latam will fly five times a week from Heathrow from 2 December, subject to government approval. The carrier hopes to restore the link severed when British Airways halted its non-stop Gatwick-Lima service in 2021 after five years.
The launch of the route is seen as a vote of confidence in Peru, which has undergone significant political turmoil. However, the UK FCDO does not warn against travel to Peru.
Latam will fly on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Saturday. The 12-hour flight will be operated with a Boeing 787-9 with 30 business class seats and 270 in economy.
Flights will leave Heathrow at 22.30, arriving at 06.35. From Lima, the departure is at 21.00, arriving next day at 14.00.
Davide Ioppolo, Latam’s regional commercial director, said: “This represents a historic milestone for Latam Airlines, as we become the only airline to connect directly to Peru from the UK.”
Latam already operates from Heathrow to Brazil’s hub and commercial centre Sao Paulo, bringing the airline to 12 weekly frequencies from the UK.
Heathrow’s chief commercial officer Ross Baker, added: “Whether it’s travelling to explore historic sites like Machu Picchu or opening doors for expanding trade, we can’t wait to welcome the first passengers onto this new route.”
