The FCDO has advised against all but essential travel to Lebanon as the situation in the Middle East escalates.
It said there was “ongoing mortar and artillery exchanges in southern Lebanon”, which borders Israel.
Further advice against all travel is in place to the border area with Syria and the southern part of Lebanon. All but essential travel is advised against to the Roman remains at Baalbeck – a big tourist attraction – and the ancient city of Tripoli.
The advice added: “Following the outbreak of violence between Israel and Gaza since 7 October there have been ongoing mortar and artillery exchanges between Lebanese Hezbollah and Israeli Defence Forces across the Blue Line in South Lebanon.
“Tensions are high and events could escalate with little warning, it could affect or limit exit routes out of Lebanon.”
Anyone in Lebanon is advised to “consider whether your need to remain is essential”.
