Leeds Bradford airport has reopened after a Tui aircraft skidded off the runway in heavy rain on Friday afternoon (20 October), although passengers have been warned of the potential for knock-on disruption early this week.
The airport reopened on Saturday (21 October) at 11.30am after Tui flight TOM 3551 from Corfu slithered off the runway due to the torrential downpours brought by Storm Babet.
Both Leeds Bradford airport and Tui confirmed there were no reported injuries or fires at the scene and all passengers had safely disembarked.
The airport was closed to allow teams to safely recover the stranded aircraft before operations could restart. Tui passengers who had been due to depart on Saturday were rerouted to Manchester, the airline said.
“While the airport is open, a small level of disruption is expected for the upcoming days,” said LBA in a statement posted to X (formerly known as Twitter) on Sunday night.
“Our ongoing guidance to customers is to please check with your airline for the status of your flight before travelling to the airport.”
TTG has approached Tui for further comment.
