Liz Truss must go.
This is now as clear as day to anyone without a vested interest in keeping on a prime minister who has demonstrated, shamefully, over the last six weeks that she is simply unfit to govern.
The travel sector is just one of thousands now being impacted by the utter carnage and chaos that is reigning in Westminster.
Instead of focusing on supporting the people of this country – and the industries that keep it going, like travel and tourism, which contributed £131.5 billion of the UK’s GDP last year – this government is now made up of sycophants more concerned with clinging onto power than thinking about what is right for the country.
Almost every sector is being affected by the economic uncertainty and political chaos. But not every sector has been through the hellish two years that travel has.
Ours is an industry, battered and bruised, desperately trying to rebuild itself in a fair and sustainable way after a devastating two years. And it is rebuilding itself despite limited (and in many cases zero) sector-specific support during the pandemic, and in spite of a chaotic start to the holiday seasons this year as government inaction (among other things) led to disgraceful – and embarrassing – airport queues.
Now, this country is facing further turmoil and economic instability with a leader who seems incapable of leading.
This cannot go on. Like every other industry in the UK, travel and its thousands of employees, deserves so much better.
