Several London airports have warned of flight disruption ahead of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II’s funeral on Monday (19 September).
Heathrow and London City airports have advised customers flights could be delayed on Wednesday (14 September) and Monday (19 September) – the day of Her Majesty’s funeral.
On Wednesday (14 September), some Heathrow flights between 1.50pm-3.40pm will be disrupted to ensure silence over central London as the ceremonial procession moves from Buckingham Palace to Westminster Hall. Passengers affected by this will be contacted by their airline.
The airport advised further changes can be expected throughout the period of national mourning. This includes a one-minute silence on Sunday (18 September) to observe the national moment of reflection.
The airport will also screen the Queen’s funeral on Monday (19 September) and further changes to its operation will be communicated in full over the coming days.
Heathrow also advised the procession of the Queen’s coffin to St George’s Chapel in Windsor on Monday (19 September) will impact local roads around the airport.
Passengers travelling to the airport are advised to consider alternative routes, such as the Piccadilly or Elizabeth Lines or Heathrow Express.
A Heathrow spokesperson said: "We apologise for the disruption caused, as we work to limit the impact on the upcoming events."
Meanwhile, London City airport said some flights on Wednesday afternoon (14 September) will be delayed out of respect for the period of mourning following the passing of the Queen.
The airport anticipated further changes to its operation on the day of Her Majesty’s funeral on Monday (19 September).
The airport said airlines will notify passengers directly of any changes and it will continue to communicate more details over the coming days.
Meanwhile, Stansted is expected to operate as normal in the days ahead, with airlines running full flight schedules.
A Stansted spokesperson said: "Passengers due to travel over the period have been asked to follow usual advice as the airport is still very busy, including preparing correctly for security before they leave home.
"Arrive at the terminal at the correct time stated by your airline (not too early or late), check for any possible road or rail disruption they may affect their journey to and from the airport, and if in any doubt, check with their airline for the latest flight information."
A Luton airport spokesperson said: "Whilst we are expecting minimal disruption, details on any possible operational impact in relation to Her Majesty’s funeral on Monday (19 September) will be confirmed over the coming days.
"Passengers travelling to the airport should contact their airlines directly for updates on any possible scheduling changes."
Elsewhere, Gatwick told TTG the period of national mourning will have "no impact" on its operations "at present".
