Lufthansa has agreed in principle a pay deal with pilots with a promise of no further strikes after a spell of industrial action by crews.
The agreement, which is still under discussion concerning the fine print, includes a no-strike obligation until 30 June 2023. The carrier was hit by walk-outs earlier this month.
Under the proposed deal, pilot members of the Vereinigung Cockpit union will receive an increase in their basic monthly pay of €490. The carrier said this meant an entry-level co-pilot would receive around 20% additional basic pay, while a captain would receive 5.5%.
Michael Niggemann, Lufthansa AG chief human resources officer and labour director, said:
"We are pleased to have reached this agreement with Vereinigung Cockpit. The increase in basic salary with uniform base amounts leads to the desired higher proportional increase in entry-level salaries.
“We now want to use the next few months in a trusting dialogue with Vereinigung Cockpit to find and implement sustainable solutions.
“The common goal is to continue to offer our pilots attractive and secure jobs with prospects for further development going foward."
