Most agents are taking new enquiries for the Pacific Asia region, with much of Asia and Australasia having reopened to international travellers.
Pata UK and Ireland’s August "Pata Poll" revealed 80% of the association’s agent network was now receiving "regular enquiries" for the region.
The August poll also placed Pacific Asia among the top five most requested regions in terms of overall bookings enquiries, said Pata UK&I.
Within the Pacific Asia region, the destination receiving the most enquiries was Australia – highlighted by nearly 20% of respondents. This was followed by the Maldives and Cambodia.
Europe remained the most enquired-after region overall among the agents polled.
Of the 20% of agents yet to see enquiries return for the Pacific Asia region, 27% said clients had already booked a holiday elsewhere, while 15% put it down to clients’ lingering concerns about Covid-19.
Asked when their clients were travelling to Pacific Asia, a fifth said they were heading off this summer, while more than half of bookings were for winter 2022/23. A further nearly 30% said summer 2023.
The survey also found that despite the cost of living crisis, more than 40% of the agents polled said their customers were still happy to spend more and upgrade their trips. More than half, though, said clients were still seeking value, while 9% said their customers couldn’t afford a holiday at this time.
"Overall, the research shows business is picking up well and is an encouraging sign for the region," said Pata UK&I.
