A new budget start-up carrier has announced plans to offer transatlantic flights from Belfast from summer 2024.
Fly Atlantic will fly to a total of 35 destinations, with services to the US, Canada, the UK and Europe.
According to the BBC, the airline will look to take on 50 staff members and 250 crew at the Northern Ireland airport, across an initial fleet of six aircraft, which it hopes to grow to 18 by 2028.
Fly Atlantic’s chief executive Andrew Pyne reportedly said: "The lack of direct transatlantic air services has clearly been an impediment to Northern Ireland’s economic and tourism development, which we now intend to remove.
"We already have offices at the airport and will now be building out the infrastructure to support the airline’s launch."
