A new online travel planning platform called Ecosy Travel has been launched to help customers plan sustainable holidays.
The new tool – which has been four years in the making – has so far attracted £65,000 in funding and was launched to coincide with World Tourism Day on Tuesday (27 September).
Ecosy Travel chief executive Rebecca Thompson was inspired to create the platform when she decided to cut back on flying and discovered a lack of easy-to-use tools to book sustainable trips.
"There was a clear gap in the market and, along with my co-founder Tim Plummer, I knew we had the experience in climate action and advanced computing to make it happen," she added.
Ecosy allows travellers to search for and book low-carbon transport and eco accommodation through third party partners, with electric vehicle (EV) and cycle hire partners to be added shortly.
It will initially launch with a UK-wide offering, but the founders hope to attract a £190,000 investment to build the advanced functionality of the web-app in 2023.
This will enable the development of the functionality of the site, which will further aid travellers looking to make sustainable choices, who currently have to research and book eco-travel, accommodation and vehicle hire separately.
Ecosy will use an inhouse grading system for accommodation and transport and the data will be shared with users so they no longer have to research and rely on third-party certifications.
