A new travel technology supplier will launch later this year to help the industry combat fraudulent bookings.
Travelix, which will go to market in February led by Cosmar and Destinations Desired managing director Jhy Worsnop-Hesford, will offer two new tools designed to reduce fraud across the travel sector.
The first, a cloud based system called Prevent, will be unveiled in line with the company’s launch and allow travel professionals to view and share suspected fraudulent activity with the wider travel community.
The second tool, Verify, is expected to launch in March and will enable suppliers to verify agents "in seconds" in a bid to reduce the risk associated with telephone bookings.
Both tools, which will cost £1 a month collectively per user, will be hosted in a secure environment with only UK based travel professionals being allowed access to the system.
Suppliers and agencies must be part of a trade association, consortia or recognised travel group to use the software.
Worsnop-Hesford said: "Fraud in the travel industry is continuing to rise, and while margins are under pressure, fraud is causing more stress when agents and suppliers try to make a decent living.
"Operating two travel brands susceptible to fraud in different ways highlighted the opportunity to analyse ways to reduce fraud and introduce solutions."
