A new transatlantic carrier is poised to enter the UK-US market next spring with a fleet of at least four Airbus A380 aircraft.
Global Airlines has confirmed the acquisition of its first A380, with a further three expected to join its fleet over the coming months.
Its stated aim is to "redefine the travel experience for passengers across all travel classes" and to "transport passengers back to the golden age of air travel".
Backed by investment and parent Holiday Swap, Global has acquired its first aircraft from Doric Aviation rather than going down the leasing route.
It plans to launch formally this summer, at which point it will outline its passenger proposition in more details, as well as its proposed route network and growth aspirations.
Global Airlines founder and chief executive James Asquith said the opportunity afforded by the A380’s space, comfort and service would be central to the airline’s service.
"The next step is to overhaul and refit the aircraft to our high specification, providing our customers with the best experience in the sky today," he continued.
"Acquiring our aircraft rather than leasing showcases our commitment to financial security and resilience from day one.”
