New York City is on course for a strong recovery to the pandemic this year, NYC & Company’s president and chief executive Fred Dixon has told IPW 2022.
He predicted that by the end of the year, the city will have recaptured more than 80% of its record 2019 visitor levels.
“New York City is experiencing an extraordinary revival, with the iconic sites visitors know and love, plus many dynamic, new developments across all five boroughs,” he said.
Among highlights, 12,000 new hotel rooms will come online in the next three years, more than 20 new Broadway shows, major upgrades at the region’s three major airports, and arts and culture additions including the brand-new Museum of Broadway, The Louis Armstrong Centre and the American Museum of Natural History’s Gilder Centre opening this year.
Visitors to IPW 2022 host city Orlando will see a host of new attractions, experiences and hotels this year.
Attraction developments include the opening of the new Peppa Pig Theme Park in February, the Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind coaster at Walt Disney World Resort’s EPCOT, and SeaWorld Orlando’s Ice Breaker coaster, featuring the steepest vertical drop in Florida.
Steinmetz Hall at the Phillips Centre for the Performing Arts opened in the heart of downtown Orlando. New multi-level attraction Gateway: The Deep Space Launch Complex at Kennedy Space Centre Visitor Complex. The 50,000-square-foot, multi-level attraction features immersive displays as well as a “journey” through space.
Orlando International Airport is nearing completion of the first stage of a $3.82 billion expansion project, adding 15 gates and many other facilities.
Las Vegas is to host a Formula 1 evening street race in November 2023, making it the third destination in the US to hold a race, besides Austin and Miami. Details of the race will be unveiled next November.
The city has seen three new resorts open in Las Vegas since 2020 in addition to numerous venues, attractions, restaurants, and entertainment, and another $5 billion in projects is expected to open in 2023.
