Escalating protests in Peru following the removal of president Pedro Castillo last week have resulted in the closure of two airports.
As well as the suspension of services to and from Arequipa and Cusco airports, PeruRail train services to and from Machu Picchu have also been cancelled due to the "volatile" political situation.
According to the UK Foreign Office, which issued a travel warning to the country on Tuesday (13 December), protests can "escalate quickly and include violence", with some continuing to take place in Apurimac, Arequipa, Cusco, Ica, along the Panamericana Highway and elsewhere.
A state of emergency for 60 days has been declared in Abancay, Andahuaylas, Chincheros, Grau, Cotabambas, Antabamba and Aymaraes.
The FCDO has advised travellers to follow authorities’ advice, monitor local media closely and avoid large gatherings and protests.
