P&O Cruises and Cunard are to drop pre-cruise Covid testing for fully vaccinated guests “on the vast majority” of sailings from next month.
From 6 September, the lines’ mandatory requirement for pre-embarkation testing will relaxed to “highly recommended” for vaccinated passengers during most voyages.
According to the brands, only guests sailing on “longer, more complex itineraries” will be required to undergo an observed or in-person antigen or PCR test and produce a fit to travel certificate prior to departure.
These include a number of sailings of 16 nights or longer and other specific cruises, according to the lines.
These new guidelines apply to all P&O and Cunard itineraries sailing from Southampton and all other departure points, with the exception of countries whose regulations and protocols may vary, such as Canada and Australia.
Current vaccination policies for both lines will remain unchanged and exact new testing requirements will be communicated to guests “in due course”.
P&O Cruises president Paul Ludlow and Carnival UK president Sture Myrmell, said: “These updated protocols reflect the current environment across the world and while certain key elements have relaxed, our commitment to protect the health and wellbeing of all guests, crew and the communities we visit remains an ongoing and vital consideration.
“They also ensure that the ease of cruising remains at the fore and that all guests of all ages can enjoy a holiday with unrivalled dining, relaxation and exploration options and unmatched service levels at extraordinary value for money.”
